Govt urged to check labour laws’ violation

Karak: The government should provide immediate relief to the labour class and check violations of the relevant laws in industries and other workplaces.

This was stated by United Workers Welfare Organisation’s central leader Zafar Saif while speaking at the workers’ meeting in Sabirabad. He claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government had no policy for welfare of labourers and said that national labour conference should be convened to devise new labour policy.

Mr Saif said that the employees were still working for over 12 hours daily in industries and mills and the timings announced by the government were not being implemented. He said that the government had also failed to implement the minimum wage law for the workers. He regretted that the labourers and other low-paid employees had been passing a miserable life as prices of daily use commodities had also registered a significant increase.

The labour leader said that there was no policy on the part of government to provide free medical services to the families of workers. He said that a workers-friendly policy should be devised with the consultation of workers’ organisations.
